Many things can contribute to slow download speed on the Epic Games Launcher while downloading your favorite games such as Fortnite, GTA V, or any other game.
While restarting your router, pc, or epic games launcher are the first steps you should take to fix your slow download speed. There are also more complex ways to increase Epic Games Launcher download speed.
In this post, I’ve made a list of a few ways to help you increase your slow download speed of Epic Games Launcher.
1. Change throttle download settings on Epic Games Launcher
Changing throttle download settings on the Epic Games launcher may not make a lot of sense, but according to many users, it may be the reason you have low download speed.
The steps you have to take are the following:
Open your epic games launcher and navigate to settings.

Find the option called Throttle Downloads and tick it. You will see a box like this one below with a default value of 0.

Change the “0” value to something like 10000000 or more.

Restart your Epic Games launcher and check your download speed on the Epic Games Launcher. If there is no difference, move to the second method.
2. Optimize the engine.ini file
There may be some download speed limitations by default in the engine.ini file. That’s why we are going to edit it to unlock the maximum download speed available to us. So let’s start!
Navigate to your search bar and type ” %APPDATA% ” and hit ENTER.

On the top bar click on AppData.

Enter the “Local” folder.

Look for the EpicGamesLauncher folder and double click on it .

Now you should see 2 folders ( Intermediate and Saved ). Double click on Saved.

Double click on the Config folder.

Double click on Windows folder.

Now you should be able to locate the Engine.ini file. Once you find it, double click to open it and start editing.
If a window pop-up asking you, ” How do you want to open this program? “choose Notepad.

Select everything in the engine.ini file and delete it. Then copy the following code and paste it into your engine.ini file.
[HTTP] HttpTimeout=10 HttpConnectionTimeout=10 HttpReceiveTimeout=10 HttpSendTimeout=10 [Portal.BuildPatch] ChunkDownloads=3 ChunkRetries=20 RetryTime=0.5
Save and close the file, restart your epic games launcher and check your speed.
If there is no difference, try the following adjustments in the code above: increasing the ChunkDownload=3 value, change it to 4, save and close the file, restart the launcher, and try again. If there is still no difference, try with 5,6,7. If nothing works, move to the next step.
3. Reset network settings/DNS Cache
If the previous two steps didn’t help you increase Epic Games Launcher download speed, try to reset your network and socks settings and flush your DNS cache. To do that, follow my instructions below.
Open your CMD as administrator and run the following commands in the same order as listed.

Command #1: ipconfig /flushdns -> hit enter
Command #2: ipconfig /registerdns -> hit enter
Command #3: ipconfig /release -> hit enter
Command #4: ipconfig /renew -> hit enter
Command #5: netsh Winsock reset -> hit enter
Restart your computer and check your Epic Games Launcher download speed again. If your download speed is still the same, try downloading the Epic Games Launcher here. If, even after reinstalling it, you got the same or lower download speed, then there is a good chance that this is your maximum download speed, and it can’t get higher, or you’ll need to get a new AB RJ45 or/and TP-Link AC1750, and apart from an increased download speed, you’ll also see better ping results.
Last but not least
Install Malwarebytes and then open it. Click on Scanner -> Advanced Scanners ->Configure Scan, and select the option scan for rootkits also, on the right side, select all your drives and click on Scan. This scan may take a lot of time, but it can save you from serious issues, especially if you use your computer for transactions, work, etc.

Once the scan is completed, quarantine everything and restart your PC.
Using a VPN?
If you need to use a VPN for whatever reason, then make sure they have a lot of servers across the world, as well as their servers are the fastest with the lowest ping possible. If you are looking for the best gaming and general use VPN without spending too much money, then you should grab 30 days FREE subscription on NordVPN.

Hello Bob,
Try deleting the engine.ini file and then start Epic Games Launcher again.

So, I wasn’t able to do all the commands. I could only do the first 2 and then the last one.. is that ok?
Hello Andii,
Yes that’s okay, did you get any error message?
It went from 500kbs to 200kbs and my internet is good so that’s not the problem
Try updating your network drivers!
Woaw it works like a charm, thank you very much !
I don’t usually comment on these things, but just wanted to say a big thank you. I used all 3 methods posted above and boosted my download speed from 500Kb/s to about 9.8Mb/s… simply amazing

But speed was too low , but now it is great. Thanks alot!
Thanks! Not nearly as much as it should be but much better!
I’m averaging around 13-16MB/s. why is it so slow? My computer can do speeds up to 380mb/s. steam and epic games are limiting me and it frustrates me -.-
Try deleting the engine.ini file and then start Epic Games Launcher again.
then I get 50 MB/s download
This worked for me thank you so much i was tired of waiting 3 hours for a 5 gig download went for below 3 mb/s to over 10 mb/s
