In this post, I will show you exactly how to uncap your FPS in Apex Legends with a few simple steps that should take less than a minute to complete.
If you are asking yourself why I am only getting 144 FPS while I have a beast PC. The answer to this is that Apex Legends, by default, has an FPS cap set to 144, which means that even if your PC can go up to 400 FPS, you will never see the number nor the benefits of having a higher FPS.
At the same time, many players have reported unstable performance when the FPS limiter is unlimited. That shouldn’t stop you from experimenting and unlocking your FPS in Apex Legends to see the full potential of your PC.
In my opinion, uncapping your FPS and, in general, settings that are crucial for the performance of your game should be easily accessible in the game settings menu, which in Apex Legends isn’t.
If you want to uncap the FPS in Apex Legends, you can do it really easily by adding a command to the launch options of either Steam or Origin launcher. The command is different for each platform so pay close attention.
Below you will find one method for each platform that Apex Legends is available on PC. Let’s get straight to the guide!

If you want to cap your FPS at a specific number, then just replace 0 with your preferred number. For example, let us say you wanted to cap your FPS at 285; the command you should enter on Command line arguments should be +fps_max 285

Make Sure VSYNC is OFF
If your FPS seems stuck again after applying the command above, you will have to ensure that VSYNC is disabled.
To do that do the following:
- Right-Click on your Desktop, and choose either Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Radeon Software depending on your graphics card.
- Navigate to the settings and Locate V-Sync and make sure to turn it OFF.
- Next, run Apex Legends.
- Navigate to Apex Legends Graphics settings and locate V-Sync.
- Make sure to set it to OFF.
- Locate, Adaptive Resolution FPS Target and set it to 0 / Disabled.
