How To Overclock and Undervolt Radeon RX 6800 XT – with Examples

Overclocking and undervolting Radeon RX 6800 XT is a great and completely free way to get more performance out of your graphics card. You can increase its performance and decrease temperatures by adjusting the clock speed, voltage, fan curves, and other advanced settings on your AMD GPU.

In this guide, you will find step-by-step instructions on how to overclock and undervolt the Radeon RX 6800 XT, as well as a few tips on how to achieve optimum results.

Before we get into it, let’s clear some things most people worry about.

How to overclock and undervolt AMD GPU

Will overclocking void the warranty of the Radeon RX 6800 XT?

No, overclocking and undervolting will not void the warranty of your Radeon RX 6800 XT. This is because it’s just a software adjustment that involves no physical changes to your card. Even if you try to overclock too high or give too much voltage to the card, it will shut itself down to avoid any damage until you revert the overclock.

Will this guide work for other AMD Graphics cards as well?

Yes, this guide will work for other AMD graphics cards as well. Overclocking and undervolting an Radeon RX 6800 XT is relatively similar to other AMD GPUs. However, you may need to adjust specific settings depending on your card’s capabilities and cooling solutions. It is best to do some research before attempting any type of overclock for your particular model.

Overclocking and Undervolting the Radeon RX 6800 XT

Before you start overclocking the Radeon RX 6800 XT, I highly recommend you go ahead and reinstall some fresh GPU drivers. Follow my guide on how to completely uninstall any previous drivers and then go ahead and download the best driver depending on the games that you play.

Now that you have the best AMD driver installed, let’s start.

Step 1 – Access the Radeon RX 6800 XT Tuning Tab

Right-click on your Desktop, and choose “AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition“.

This will open a new window with all the settings you will need to overclock and undervolt the Radeon RX 6800 XT.

Step 2 – Increase the Power limits

The GPU power limits are the first thing you should adjust when overclocking and undervolting your Radeon RX 6800 XT. It is recommended that you increase the power limit first before making any other adjustments, as it will allow your card to draw more power from the wall(if needed), which can help in achieving higher clock speeds and better performance.

On the bottom right side of the AMD Tuning tab, you will find Power Tuning.

Click on Enabled and a slider will appear.

Start by increasing this slider as much as possible on the right side, and click “Apply“.

Step 3 – Overclock and Undervolt the Radeon RX 6800 XT

Now that you have set the power limits of your Radeon RX 6800 XT, it is time to start tweaking it.

Before you start doing anything, make sure to download and install Superposition Benchmark software in order to test if your overclock/undervolt is stable or not.

Click on the button next to GPU tuning to enable it and then enable the “Advanced Control” option. Now you should be able to see the Frequency of the Radeon RX 6800 XT as well as the Voltage.

The image below is from my card, so it might be slightly different from yours in how it looks, but they work the same way.

Overclock and Undervolt

Lower the voltage by -50 and increase the Frequency by +50. Once you do that, it should look like the photo below.

Overclocked and undervolted

Now open Superposition and run an 8k Optimized test. If the test finishes successfully without any artifacts or stuttering, you are good to go.

Stress test

Now you can start to increase the Frequency and decrease the voltage slowly. Run a test to ensure it’s stable every time you do so, and then continue.

I recommend decreasing the voltage by increments of 15 and increasing the Frequency by increments of 25.

Let me give you an example so you can understand it better:

With the above table, you can see that Attempt 4 is the best possible overclock/undervolt that your graphics card can have because you can’t lower the voltage anymore or increase the Frequency.

You will need a lot of testing and back and forth to get the best overclock settings for your Radeon RX 6800 XT, but it’s worth it since once you find the best overclock, you don’t have to do it again.

Step 4 – VRAM Tuning for Radeon RX 6800 XT

Once you make sure that your undervolt and overclock are fully stable, you can go ahead and increase the VRAM speed of your Radeon RX 6800 XT for a little bit of extra performance.

Same thing here as before. Start with increments of 25 and every time do a stress test to make sure it’s stable and doesn’t cause any crashes or errors. Once you find the maximum value, save it and proceed to the next step.

Step 5 – Fan Tuning for Radeon RX 6800 XT

Since the Radeon RX 6800 XT gets pretty hot at high speeds and often times overheats, I would recommend creating an “aggressive” fans configuration to keep it as cool as possible.
