How To Make GTA V Full Screen – Easy Guide 2022

Sometimes, GTA V will completely ignore your settings, and it will just keep opening on a window mode. It can be frustrating to experience and even make you quit playing GTA V. I’ve seen dozens of posts on different forums and Reddit from players looking to make GTA V play on full screen.

If you wonder why GTA V is not running on full screen, then no worries, I got you covered. In this post, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on making GTA V run on full screen in a few minutes and completely fix your issue.

How To Make GTA V Full Screen - Easy Guide 2022

Step 1 – Try forcing Full Screen.

The first thing you should try, since it is the easiest method to do while you are in the game, press ALT + Enter, and it should go back to full screen. If it didn’t, try pressing the ALT+Enter combination a few more times to be sure.

If that didn’t work, no worries, follow the following steps.

Step 2 – Change graphics settings.

Let’s make sure that GTA V is set to work on full screen and make sure the resolution matches your native monitor’s resolution.

  • Run GTA V as administrator and load to either online or offline mode.
  • Press ESC to get into the games menu and navigate the Settings tab.
  • Go to the Graphics tab.
  • Locate the Screen Type option and make sure it is set to Full Screen.
  • Below the Screen Type option, you’ll see the Resolution setting. Make sure to set it to your monitors’ native resolution.

Now your game should be back in full screen. If it still doesn’t, try pressing ALT+Enter again and see if that works. If it still reverts to windowed mode, proceed with Step 3 of this guide.

Step 3 – Edit the config file.

If the above steps didn’t work for you, in this one, you are going to change to full screen before the game loads from the configuration file.

Navigate to the following location on your PC-> Documents > Rockstar Games > GTA V.

Look for a file named Settings.xml and right-click on it, and choose Edit.

Scroll down and look for a setting named “Windowed” and change the value of that to “2”.

Edit GTA V config file to force full screen.

Please save the config file and now run GTA V but once you run it, make sure not to do anything else on your PC while it’s loading. Just double click on GTA V, leave the mouse and keyboard, and see if it boots to full screen.

If it didn’t initially boot into full screen, then go back to Step 2 and re-apply the settings in-game, and it should work.
