Fix DirectX Errors on Euro Truck Simulator 2 in 2024

DirectX errors in Euro Truck Simulator 2 can be incredibly frustrating and can cause the game to crash completely. DirectX is responsible for managing many of the resources used by a game, such as graphics and sound, so when something goes wrong with it, your gaming experience will suffer.

In this post, you will find a lot of general fixes for most Directx errors you can get in Euro Truck Simulator 2. Most Directx errors will pop up an error message when you try to run Euro Truck Simulator 2, telling you that some DLL file like 3d11.dll, d3dx11.dll, etc., is missing, or your game will continuously crash while you are playing.

To help you get started, I wrote this detailed guide to help you fix any Directx error in Euro Truck Simulator 2 in a few easy steps.

How To Fix DirectX Errors in Euro Truck Simulator 2

Below you can find the most common methods to fix any DirectX error that pops up while or before playing Euro Truck Simulator 2.

How To Fix DirectX Errors

Make sure your GPU is capable of running Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Before we even start troubleshooting and trying things, let’s ensure that your graphics card can run Euro Truck Simulator 2 at least on the lowest graphics settings.

Navigate to Euro Truck Simulator 2’s official website and look for Euro Truck Simulator 2s’ minimum system requirements.

Ensure your graphics card is better or equally powerful than the one listed on the minimum Euro Truck Simulator 2 system requirements page. If it is, move on to this guide’s next step. If it is not, then maybe it’s time to upgrade your GPU to play Euro Truck Simulator 2 without any unrecoverable errors and crashes.

Reinstall and Update DirectX.

DirectX is a set of components that allows software, especially games, to work directly with your video and audio cards.

I recommend reinstalling DirectX because you may have an old Directx version installed right now which may be corrupted causing many issues such as Directx errors, unknown or fatal errors, and causing Euro Truck Simulator 2 to crash back to the desktop constantly.

Navigate to Microsoft’s DirectX official download page, choose your preferred language and click the download button to get the latest DirectX version.

Once completed, all DirectX versions are installed(9, 10, 11, and 12), and we can move on to the next step.

Reinstall/Update your GPU drivers.

One of the most common causes of DirectX-related errors is corrupted and outdated graphics card drivers.

There are two methods you can use to reinstall and update your GPU drivers:

1. Manually

  • Download Display Driver Uninstaller and save it on your PC.
  • Depending on your graphic card manufacturer, navigate to either AMD or NVidia‘s website and download the latest graphics driver.
  • Now that you have both the DDU and graphic card driver on your pc, I want you to go ahead and boot into safe mode.
    • Go to the search bar, type System Configuration, and click on it.
    • Navigate to the Boot tab, and tick the option Safe boot.
    • Hit Apply and OK, and then Restart.
    • Your PC should restart in Safe Mode.
  • Now that you are in Safe Mode, run DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller), choose your GPU, and Uninstall.
  • While the uninstallation process is running, do the following to boot back into normal mode:
    • Go to the search bar, type System Configuration, and click on it.
    • Navigate to the Boot tab, and untick the option Safe boot.
    • Hit Apply and OK, and WAIT FOR DDU to finish uninstalling the GPU driver.
    • Your PC should restart automatically back to normal mode.
  • Look for the driver file, double-click on it, and follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the installation.
  • Once the new driver is installed, make sure to optimize your NVidia control panel settings or AMD Radeon settings.

Now you can check if you are still experiencing any Directx errors when trying to run Euro Truck Simulator 2.

2. Automatically

This method is much easier and less time-consuming.

  • Go ahead and download the free version of DriverBooster, install it on your PC, and open it.
  • Navigate to the main page and click on scan for drivers. It will take a few minutes to finish scanning.
  • Once it’s done, go ahead and update your GPU driver as well as any other driver that it suggests.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions, and you should be good to go.
  • The driver software will make sure that you have the latest drivers installed on your PC.

Now you can check if you are still experiencing any Directx errors when trying to run Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Repair/Verify/Reinstall your game files.

Another common cause of DirectX errors in Euro Truck Simulator 2 is corrupted and damaged game files.

I highly recommend you reinstall the game, especially if your internet is fast and you can quickly redownload it. On the other hand, if reinstalling is not an option, verify and repair the Euro Truck Simulator 2 files through the launcher.

If you decide to uninstall and reinstall it, make sure to use the free trial of IObit Uninstaller to get rid of every file related to Euro Truck Simulator 2 from your PC before installing it again. It will make sure that no files, folders, and entries in the Windows Registry will be left behind and cause issues related to DirectX.

Delete DirectX Cache.

The DirectX cache is a procedure for storing shaders, frequently used by apps, games, and programs to make the rendering process much quicker.

Sometimes the DirectX shader cache may get corrupted, causing errors and making specific programs and games like Euro Truck Simulator 2 constantly crash.

Clearing up the cache won’t harm your computer in any way, and it’s also a procedure that I do monthly and suggest my clients do as well to keep our computers clean.

To clean up the DirectX Cache, do the following:

  • Go to the Windows search bar, type Disk Cleanup, and click on the first option.
  • Select the drive and click OK.
  • Tick the checkbox next to DirectX Shader Cache and click on OK
  • Click on Delete Files, and the deletion process will start shortly after.
  • Wait for a few seconds to a few minutes for the operation to complete.

Disable any GPU Overclock

Overclocking your graphics card can be a great way to increase performance and boost your FPS, but it does come with some risks. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it can result in all sorts of errors. These include graphical glitches, display driver crashes, DirectX errors, stuttery performance, and even hardware failure.

If you’ve been lately experimenting with overclocking your graphics card, there is a good chance that your graphics card overclock is unstable and causing crashes and errors on Windows.

Depending on the way you overclocked your GPU, make sure to go back and reset everything to default and restart your PC.

Lower in-game graphic settings.

If none of the above methods fixed the DirectX error in Euro Truck Simulator 2, it might be a good idea to try and lower your in-game settings to the minimum possible.

Sometimes if there is no sufficient VRAM for the game, it will crash, throwing all kinds of DirectX errors.
